Sven Sekovanić has left us forever, far too soon, at the age of fifty-one. That dear, lively metalhead kid who, even as an underage teenager, used to create tattoo designs for his older brother Alan — designs I tattooed on Alan back in the early nineties when I was still working at Robi's Tattoo Shop. We have lost one of the greatest tattoo masters in Croatia. Sven’s work, whether tattoos or illustrations, inspired admiration — and in many, envy. He was a true master, free of ego, without arrogance, and without those irritating traits so often found in the tattooing world. He never needed to compensate for any shortcomings in his craft, because there simply were none. In fact, he wasn’t even aware of his own greatness as a tattoo master — just that same good, lively, modest Sven, an eternal Peter Pan.

We celebrate, make room for, and admire the wrong people — the posers — while those like him pass by undeservedly unnoticed. I have lost a friend with whom every moment was precious. I have lost a colleague who had a deep impact on my life.
Sven’s funeral will take place on April 23rd, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the city cemetery in Varaždin.
